German American Business Association – It’s Fantastic!

filed under: business is an evolving success — Martin @ 11:02 pm

During the weekend I posted two articles in the Yahoo groups of the GABA, the German American Business Association. We were looking for contacts to people from the Bay area, because Sebastian and Andi will travel there in mid November and we like to meet as many people as possible. I didn’t expect much feedback, but was told otherwise! Within a few hours I received about a dozen replies from different people offering us their support! That’s fantastic! Is this specific to the Bay area, to the US, to entrepreneurs?

Call for Abstracts – webinale and Startup Day 2009

filed under: the offline world — Martin @ 2:01 pm

The webinale and the Startup Day 2008 was a great success for all participants. So I’m very happy to announce that the webinale and the Startup Day will take place also in 2009 and this time in the heart of Berlin: at Alexanderplatz! The date is 25. until 27. May 2009. As a member of the advisory board I like to invite all readers to actively participate in the composition of these three days. We like to invite:

  • artists that present their art at the webinale
  • experts on web technologies and trends that share their expertise with the participants
  • investors that join the evening party and meet with founders
  • companies that sponsor the webinale and/or the Startup Day
  • entrepreneurs that share their experience with founders
  • and of course developers, designers and founders that want to learn from those.

Please send me a short abstract and spread the message! Thank you and have a good time!

Survey about the Future Trends on the Internet

filed under: the market is always right — Matthias @ 12:38 pm

On Netzwertig I found a survey about the future trends on the Internet. 51 media experts were interviewed, in which direction the Internet is developing during the next few years. The market research instituts AGOF, IVW and INFOnline presented the results of the survey on the OMD – a fair for digital marketing.

One trend on the Internet is paid content. Here are some selected facts:

1. Social networks have problems with the montetization

2. Paid content as a future trend

3. Paid content as one of the three future business models

Good bye and stay tuned.

Good news for Friendster, great news for Facebook:

In a move signifying the influence of the Facebook platform in the social web, Friendster has announced that it has deployed supporter for the Facebook platform. Developers can now choose between the Facebook Platform, OpenSocial, or Friendster’s API to launch applications on the platform. Whether or not Facebook developers will actually choose to launch on Friendster is unknown but it just became a whole lot easier.

“Facebook Puts European Headquarters in Dublin”

filed under: zero degree of separation — Martin @ 7:52 pm

Sorry Facebook guys, but establishing a headquarter in Dublin is not enough to conquer Europe and the Middle East and Africa:

This morning the Irish Times reported that Facebook has confirmed its plans to establish one of its international headquarters in Dublin. The headquarters will be responsible for activities taking place within the company “across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.” Last week I wrote about Facebook hiring people in India, Hong Kong, Syndney, and the U.K.

Via Facebook Puts European Headquarters in Dublin

Europe is a diverse social network market and Germany in particular is a complicated one with strong competitors. If you want to succeed in Germany you have to open a headquarter in Germany. Take MySpace for example, they have a headquarter in Berlin, a very beautiful by the way.

So Facebook come to Germany! My suggestion for your headquarter is Munich – you will like it! And have a good time!

Presentation at the Facebook Developer Garage

filed under: the offline world — Martin @ 10:00 am

Nico Lumma which is responsible for the Facebook Developer Garage here in Germany told me yesterday at the Community Summit that we as SnipClip are invited to present at the Garage. The next Garage will take place this time in Berlin at the 20th October. The talk will be about SnipClip, of course, but also but virtual goods in social networks in general and in Facebook in special. My question to you, my dear readers, is: should we present more technical information or more business-related information? Please, tell me, if you are participating!

And have a good time!
