One trend on the Internet is paid content. Here are some selected facts:

1. Social networks have problems with the montetization

2. Paid content as a future trend

3. Paid content as one of the three future business models

The web is great because it is independent of space and time. However, this makes the web very boring. Imagine for example you could talk to your friends in real life only via your mailbox (asynchronous and indirect). Social interactions and connections require a common space and synchronicity. So virtual life needs a virtual space, i.e. virtual worlds or social networks with some “live functions”. Facebook is a good example: first they introduced a Twitter-like feature (status updates), now they added chat. Next, they will add chat rooms, maybe.

Have a good time!

Availability was the trend of the past years. I say “was”, because in my opinion this trend is over. Availability is everywhere and everything is available. Availability is no more an USP!

The upcoming trend is exclusivity or – as we say – identity through exclusivity. People want to be special. This can be through special achievements or honours, through special characteristics or through special goods they own. To be special a good must be expensive or rare. Exclusivity isn’t in opposition to availability. Things can be exclusive, but easily available for those who have the exclusive access to it. I’m not taking about an elite, who can buy things other people can’t buy. I’m taking about special interests, about fans and about highly emotional products that other people won’t buy or even search for it and so don’t know that these things even exist.

This means exclusivity for me: something I own that only a few other people have and with whom I share common interests. So exclusivity also means connectivity!

In this spirit, be special, stay connected and have a good time!
